in my letter of 10th May, that the earliest possible opportunity will be taken to release the site.

In view therefore of the intimate connection between these two questions, to which Sir William Peel refers in the 7th paragraph of his despatch, I am to suggest that the terms on which the military authorities shall continue meanwhile to occupy Sham Shui Po could more suitably be left for consideration until the question of permanent accommodation for the garrison has progressed further, when the two matters can be settled together.
